From the revered Fechner brothers' Moculta vineyard in the northern Eden Valley, Elijah is Chaffey's flagship single-vineyard Shiraz, and deservedly their most-awarded wine. There is intricate, filigree detail on the nose, with astonishing complexity. Notes of fruitcake, cedar, liquorice, blackcurrant, crushed eucalyptus, root beer and pomegranate molasses unfurl in the glass to a lilting lily, violet and clove spiciness. Take a sip, and be drenched in full-bodied concentration and bottomless depth, tempered by extraordinary balance, harmony and persistence. Gorgeously soft and succulent, with velvety tannins, this is superb now, and should last at least a decade.
