Thirty years in the making, Elanto Chardonnay draws on Sandro Mosele's decades of vine-growing and winemaking on Mornington Peninsula, while an avid student of Burgundy's wines, vineyards and élevage. Densely-planted vines (11,111 per hectare) and a cool, south-facing slope gives the wine an extraordinary combination of concentration and restraint, with notes of wet stones, fresh cream, greengage, green apple, oatmeal and flint. The pent-up richness uncoils in the glass to display extraordinary complexity: honey, pineapple, chamomile, vanilla, bitter lemon, caper and a hint of charcuterie. It has a tight-knit, tangy, zesty, almost chewy core, reminiscent of Santorini Assyrtiko, which is cloaked in gentle generosity. It's powerful and full-bodied, and yet the persistent acidity provides both freshness and thrilling tension.

Elanto Vineyard
Winemaking
Elanto is Australia's largest dense-planted vineyard. The competition resulting from 11,111 vines per hectare contributes to the wine's intensity and complexity. The site is farmed without the use of herbicides. Only the best bunches and berries are picked and sorted by hand, before pressing directly into 225 litre Tronçais oak barrels for fermentation.
Press Review
96/100 - The 2024 Balnarring Chardonnay is tighter, brighter and more primary than the 2023 tasted alongside. In the mouth, the wine is svelte and textural, and it shows all the sophistication of the site. The elevated malolactic percentage here contributes to the elevated sense of creaminess in the mouth. It's an excellent wine and will be even better in time. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under Diam. Drink 2025-2039
