Bodegas Martin Codax
Since 1986, Bodegas Martín Códax has become a byword for the highest quality Galician winemaking, and is particularly known for Albariño from Rías Baixas.
Bodegas Martín Códax was founded in 1985, named after a renowned Galician troubadour whose medieval poems celebrate love and the sea. Established by a group of local winegrowers in Galicia, northwest Spain, the winery has grown significantly from its humble beginnings. Today, Martín Códax is recognised globally as a symbol of Galician wines, promoting the rich cultural heritage of the region in over 50 countries. The winery is a cooperative effort involving more than 300 families, embodying the values of tradition, collaboration, and commitment to quality.
Bodegas Martín Códax's vineyards are located in the lush, green landscapes of Galicia, where the Atlantic climate imparts a distinct freshness to their wines. The vineyards, divided into small parcels, are meticulously maintained using the traditional “emparrado” vine-training system, which helps maximise sun exposure and airflow. The winery is particularly known for its Albariño wines, which showcase the minerality and vibrant acidity characteristic of the region. Under the guidance of expert viticulturalists, Martín Códax ensures that every grape is cultivated with precision, delivering wines that embody the essence of Galicia.
Environmental stewardship and sustainability are integral to Bodegas Martín Códax's philosophy. The winery is committed to sustainable farming practices, avoiding the use of harmful chemicals and prioritising natural vineyard management techniques. Their efforts to protect biodiversity and reduce their environmental footprint extend to energy-efficient winemaking facilities and eco-friendly packaging. Martín Códax also supports the local community by providing employment and fostering a cooperative model, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the region's viticulture.
