Altaïr
Viña San Pedro
Winemaking
For the first 16 months of maturation, 70% of the wine matured in 225- and 300-litre French oak barrels, 25% in foudres and the remaining 5% in amphorae.. The types of ageing vessel were adapted to each variety and terroir. The final blend of the components was determined through tasting, and then married in foudre for a further six months before bottling.
Press Review
95/100 - Good aromatic and flavour definition in this balanced blend, a Cabernet Sauvignon (88%) to which Cabernet Franc (8%) and Carmenere (4%) contribute herbaceous nuance and earthy depth. Overall dominated by Cabernet's intense cassis but lifted by fragrant mint, bayleaf, tarragon and basil. Fleshy figs play in the back and will surely emerge in their dried iteration with increased depth. Well-presented, muscular tannins provide a good framework and ageing potential. Drink 2024-2039

95/100 - Cedary oak with incense, lots of blueberries, blackberries, violets and herbs. Tobacco, too. Just a hint of olives. Almost full-bodied on the palate, but turns juicy and refined with well-structured, chalky tannins. Very long. Drink or hold.
