An utterly delicious Napa Valley Cabernet, reminiscent of a Saint-Julien Bordeaux from a rich, rounded vintage. Blueberry and black cherry fruit greet you as you put your nose in the glass, and they are lent coolness and subtlety by nuances of black tea, raspberry leaf, allspice and creamy oak. In the mouth it has a lovely, fresh, juicy character with just enough tannin to remind you that this is a serious wine that could last a good number of years, if only you can keep your hands off it - since it is such a joy to drink already. " Always a solid value in Napa Cabernet, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis has a varietal nose of darker currants and subtle blue fruits as well as green tobacco, lead pencil shavings, chocolate, and cedarwood. This carries to a medium-bodied, nicely textured, elegant 2018 that offers the vintage's fresher, more elegant texture, present tannins, and plenty of length on the finish. It's not for those craving blockbuster wines, but it has elegance and charm. It should benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for 10-12. Drink 2023 - 2036. "
Winemaking
While Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars' Estate Cabernet Sauvignons showcase the distinctive characteristics of each vineyard, Artemis demonstrates how astute grape selection and skilful blending can create a wine that represents the sum of Napa Valley’s best Cabernet Sauvignon parts. A small amount of Merlot (9%) and Malbec (2%) were blended with the Cabernet Sauvignon for another layer of complexity and the wine was aged for 18 months in a combination of new and used French and American oak.
