Graeme's favourite producer of 2023 is Quinta do Crasto from Portugal.
Leonor and Jorge Roquette & their sons Miguel and Tomás, are fourth generation owners of the Quinta do Crasto estate, and produce a variety of wines, from Vintage and non-vintage Port, to still wines from the Douro DOC and single varietal wines from the great Port grapes – Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. Considerable investment has been made over recent years at Quinta do Crasto to modernise the vineyards and winery facilities so as to ensure the production of high quality wines, year after year. Each of these developments, allied with the passion of an entire team dedicated to seeking out the highest possible quality in wine and other products and to the family’s unwavering dedication to its history and tradition have contributed to Quinta do Crasto’s growing national and international reputation.
On completion of A levels, Graeme joined the Royal Navy and entered Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. After a long, varied and much-travelled career involving many years at sea in operational warships, Graeme retired from the Royal Navy in 2008 as an Advanced Warfare Officer specialising in Command and Information Systems, and enthusiastically joined the wine trade as a second career. Later in life, Graeme gained the WSET Diploma whilst in the Navy and, as a customer living locally, knew The Great Wine Company before commencing his new working life with them as a part-time Shop Assistant. Every day is different and Graeme thinks it is a real pleasure to be able to advise our customers about the wide range of wines and spirits available, and to be surrounded by lovely wines, and a friendly, professional team!
