Key Flavours
Serve
Bright citrus is the dominant force here, although juniper snaps in so quick and firmly that the drinker would be lucky to escape without whiplash. It’s a catch-all gin, brilliant in most cocktails and great in a G&T with a grapefruit garnish.
Process
King of Soho is made to London Dry standards at Thames Distillers in London. There are 12 botanicals in the gin, including juniper, coriander, grapefruit, angelica and cassia.
People
Howard Raymond was inspired to make a gin that would well reflect the creativity, music and art of Soho, the devil may care corner of London in which his father was a well known figure – a king, of sorts.
Place
Thames Distillers, based in South London, is a contract distillery responsible for creating so many of today’s gins. Distiller Charles Maxwell is a dab hand, able to perfect a gin within a couple of tries. If he’s made it, it’s good.
