A rich mahogany colour with a flavour profile to match, dried fruits, oak, vanilla and an undertone of tobacco on the finish - Hennessy VSOP is delicious in an Old Fashioned.
Process
Mostly made of Ugni Blanc grape, once pressed, fermented, and twice distilled in traditionally shaped Charentais copper stills. The distillate is then matured in casks made from the nearby Limousin or Tronçais forest. A blend of these casks is used.
People
The distillery was founded by Irish Jacobite military officer Richard Hennessy in 1765. After merging with Moët et Chandon in the 70's - in 1987 it became part of the world's largest luxury brand conglomerates, Louis Vuitton Moët-Hennessy or LVMH.
Place
For over 250 years, Hennessy has been crafting one-of-a-kind cognacs in the heart of the Charente region in France. Today it is the biggest producer of Cognac and their approach to viticulture profoundly shapes the region.
