Freshly zested oils dance on a bed of fresh herbs (principally basil and thyme). Olive and resinous juniper build with the bright citrus never diminishes. Great from the freezer in a Martini.
Process
Botanicals are individually distilled, then blended together. The usual botanicals remain, including juniper, arbequina olive, basil, thyme with two new additions of lemon and bergamot from the Sorrento peninsula.
People
Gin Mare was founded in 2010 by the Giró Family of MG Destilerías and Alfonso Morodo and Antonio Pardo of Vantguard. It was recently bought by US based Brown-Forman.
Place
Not only do the flavours embody a sense of the Mediterranean - Gin Mare is made on the site of an old monastery in the small Spanish fishing town of Villanova, the distillery space even has a fresco on the ceiling above the still.
