This wine is a deep, intense red. Elegant on the nose, with aromas of black fruits (blueberry and blackberry) dominating the hint of spice. A remarkable fullness on the palate, with layered tannins and roundness. The long finish has a delicate vanilla edge. A delightful wine, both powerful and elegant. It can easily be kept for 8 to 10 years.

Classic Madiran - a personal favourite

Posted by Matt Eglinton on 17 May 2020

Lovely blackberry fruit across a palate that has great structure, balance and acidity. With each sip you can sense the tannins that have been tamed lurking in the background but they are transformed into a silky sinewy texture. That is a most enjoyable aspect to this powerful yet elegant classic wine. It goes so well with roast duck!

Hand-harvested early October with yields of around 45hl/ha. Long maceration (25 days). Extraction through délestages. Malolactic fermentation. Ageing in 400 litre barrels for 18 months.

Our Expert Food Recommendation

To be served with not only with traditional French dishes, but also variations in contemporary cuisine: leg of lamb, beef bourguignon.
