Champagne Taittinger remains one of the few Champagne Houses to be owned and actively managed by the family named on the label. With a focus on Chardonnay, Taittinger's award winning prestige cuvees are famously light and elegant, and each cuvée has its own story to tell. Tattinger is Champagne for the independently minded, who seek quality and elegance in every single drop.
Image Of Taittinger Family

Taittinger remains one of the few Champagne Houses to be owned and actively managed by the family on the label. The House’s origins date to 1734 when it was founded by Jacques Fourneaux, with the Taittinger link established in 1931 when Pierre Taittinger, the founder of today’s company, acquired the House. Today, Reims based Taittinger is headed by Pierre’s great grandchildren Vitalie and Clovis, both of whom are actively involved in the day to day running of the thriving and globally renowned family Champagne House. Taittinger’s home is situated above miles of ancient chalk tunnels and cellars. These UNESCO-listed cellars, which date to the 4th century and once belonged to the Benedictine monks of the abbey of St Nicaise, are perfect for the slow ageing processes required to produce great Champagne like the legendary Tête de cuvée Taittinger Comte de Champagne, Grand Cru Prelude and Les Foiles de la Marquetterie

The hallmark of the Taittinger Champagnes is the high percentage of Chardonnay used in their winemaking which can be anything from 40% in the Brut Réserve Non Vintage to 100% in the prestigious Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs. This Chardonnay dominance provides for a style of elegance, delicacy and finesse which is recognised worldwide and has earned the House many accolades and awards over the years. Today, the Taittinger rannge is served in over 140 countries worldwide the House recently made history by becoming the first Champagne marque to purchase land in England to produce a premium English Sparkling Wine. This pioneering joint venture, Domaine Evremond, marks an exciting new time for a family absolutely committed to the production of the finest sparkling wines.

Taittinger operates in accordance with the “authorisation préfectorale”, a French government sustainability programme under which the House is required to follow certain environmental procedures. However, Taittinger believes in going the extra mile and has implemented many green initiatives on its properties and throughout its supply-chain as part of the House’s everyday working. In 2017 Taittinger received two environmental accreditations : the ‘Viticulture Durable en Champagne’ (Sustainable vine-growing in Champagne) and the Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE – High environmental sustainability) in recognition of the House’s achievements in this area which includes the responsible management of water, sensible use of fertilisers the controlling of waste to preserve the biodiversity of fauna and flora across the terroir of the vineyards. The whole appellation of Champagne is working to develop lighter bottles to reduce transport costs and emissions, and 80% of the glass used comes from recycled sources, for Taittinger, this figure is 94% recycled glass, and all waste packaging (cardboard, paper, glass and steel from capsules) is recycled. Taittinger is constantly in discussion with suppliers to drive new and more sustainable ways of working and are leading the way as a sustainable Champagne grower, using (on average) around half the amount of fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides used by other growers and pioneering the use of covercrops as an alternative to herbicides.
